Villains Land is a name, not a ticket
Magic Kingdom’s long-rumoured villains project is now officially Villains Land. Disney put it on a Galaxy’s Edge-sized footprint, with dining, shopping and two attractions: a Maleficent coaster through a mountaintop fortress and briar thicket, and a Magic Mirror dark ride that brings in a wider villain cast, including the Evil Queen, Cruella and Dr. Facilier. The story hook is a corrupted wishing well in a dark forest.
There is still no opening year. Concept art and an Imagineering model of the Maleficent coaster are not a construction calendar. If you are booking 2026 or even 2027 Magic Kingdom days, this land is a wall, not a ride.
Piston Peak sits on Frontierland’s doorstep
The Cars land is now Piston Peak, a national-park pastiche next to Frontierland and Liberty Square. Disney named two rides: Cars Ridge Run Rally, an off-road racing system that climbs a snow-capped peak and runs through a geyser field Disney says will extend from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad; and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along, aimed at younger riders, with a giant school-bus Audio-Animatronic.
That geyser-field line is the operational detail hiding in the fanfare. Big Thunder’s landscape is being asked to serve two lands. The railroad itself already returned in spring 2026 after the crevasse-to-peak refurbishment. Ride it now. Do not wait for Ridge Run Rally.
Monstropolis will open in pieces
At Hollywood Studios, Disney said the first slice of Monstropolis opens in 2027: a Mike and Sulley show, Welcome to Monstropolis, at the Glob Theater; Harryhausen’s table-service restaurant with a sushi-chef Audio-Animatronic; Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza; and the Scareporium shop. The door-vault coaster announced in 2024 is still under construction and was not given a 2027 promise.
That is a land that will look open before it rides like one. If you time a 2027 Studios day around Monsters, Inc., budget for food and a show, not a coaster credit, until Disney says otherwise.
What this means for a trip you are taking soon
D23 is a horizon document. The 2026 Hollywood Studios news that already happened is Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets, which launched on 26 May in the old Aerosmith building. Magic Kingdom’s 2026 news that already happened is Big Thunder back in service. Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom is the other large Florida project still in the dirt.
Use this index for the parks and heights as they stand. Use Disney’s own construction pages for the walls. Do not let a Maleficent coaster with no date rearrange a trip you can take this winter.
