ABOUT THIS RIDE

What The Swarm is

Bolliger & Mabillard opened The Swarm in 2012. Published speed is about 95 km/h, with five inversions and a 38-metre lift. Wing coasters put the rail between the seats, so your feet hang with nothing under them through the barrel rolls.

The crashed-jet theming is the reason the ride photographs well. The layout weaves through the wreckage rather than over an empty field, which is why the POV looks busier than a similar-height sit-down coaster.

It is a different intensity from Stealth (launch) and Hyperia (height). If you want inversions with a view of the lake, this is the Thorpe Park ride that does that.

What to expect

Seats on the wing feel different left vs right on some elements, because one side leads into a roll. There is no “wrong” side; pick a row and commit.

The first drop and the dive through the wreckage are the signature moments. Five inversions follow in a compact circuit.
