How this shortlist was built
Every ride below has a page on this site, a listed type, and in most cases a height minimum, published specs and an on-ride video. It is not a worldwide ranking of every coaster ever built. It is a map of ten different jobs you can actually open from here.
If you care about one job only — say launches — skip the rest. The comparison tool exists for putting two of these side by side.

If you only open three pages
For inversions: The Smiler. For a ride that is about place rather than stats: Nemesis Reborn or F.L.Y. For raw numbers: Formula Rossa (speed) or Fury 325 (height). Those four jobs do not substitute for each other. That is why “best in the world” is a bad question.
Build from the directory, not from a listicle
Park pages group rides by the actual site. Ride pages carry the POV and the listed height. The height checker and comparison tool use the same figures as these tables. If a famous coaster is missing, it is because it is not in the index yet — not because it was ranked below these ten.
